WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Wednesday revealed his plan to authorize more US military involvement in taking down ISIS. Obama says its airstrikes will strike ISIS ‘wherever they exist’.
In a public address to the American people, President Obama stated that the US will “conduct a systematic campaign of airstrikes against these terrorists.”
“I have made it clear that we will hunt down terrorists who threaten our country, wherever they are,” Obama stated.
“That means I will not hesitate to take action against ISIL in Syria, as well as Iraq. This is a core principle of my presidency: if you threaten America, you will find no safe haven.”
President Obama also stated that he does not need congressional approval to strike ISIS. Obama also gave his statement on Syria,
“In the fight against ISIL, we cannot rely on an Assad regime that terrorizes its people; a regime that will never regain the legitimacy it has lost. Instead, we must strengthen the opposition as the best counterweight to extremists like ISIL, while pursuing the political solution necessary to solve Syria’s crisis once and for all“, Obama said.
ISIS has threatened to bomb U.S. cities and remains the highest threat to the US. US officials are currently monitoring ISIS activity worldwide and local law enforcement presence is expected to increase on the 13th anniversary of 9/11.
With so much offensive actions being taken by Obama, ISIS could retaliate and cause major damage to the US.
